Get More Flexible To Feel More Fabulous

Did you even realize that basic stretching is a natural and automatic action? You do it sometimes when you feel tired, or when you haven’t moved your body for an extended period of time. This is actually giving your body energy! While the benefits of daily exercise are often talked about, the benefits of a regular stretching routine are far less emphasized but just as important. Incorporating stretching into your daily workouts and/or into your regular day on their own is a very important part of health balance and proper body functioning. Three benefits of stretching outside of the mere fact that it gives you energy are:

Improved flexibility and range of motion. As our bodies age, the muscles can become tighter and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. A lack of flexibility can cause movement to become slower and less fluid, making  us more susceptible to muscle strains or other more serious injuries that are definitely going to be no fun to deal with from day to day. An increase in flexibility is accompanied by improved balance and coordination; and this comes by way of stretching!

Improved Posture. Chronically tense and tight muscles can contribute to poor posture. Stretching helps to ensure correct posture by lengthening tight muscles that pull areas of the body away from their intended position. Stretching the muscles of the lower back, chest and shoulders can help keep the spine in better alignment and improve overall posture. While stretching the muscles in the lower body will contribute to proper body alignment as well.

Helps increase blood flow to the muscles. An increase in blood flow brings with it a greater nutrient supply to muscles, thereby reducing muscle soreness and helping to speed recovery from muscle and joint injuries or even prevention of such injuries. The less sore your muscles are, the less painful it will be to work those same muscles and to exercise them in general.

So, when you are looking for simple ways to kick start your energy level, body positioning and/or injury resistance plan, pick a few stretches.  It will change how you feel in the moment and it will also contribute to how fabulous you are in the future!
